Skegness Silver Band Opens Summer Season Copy

Skegness Silver Band Opens Summer Season Copy

Full Description

In spite of the terrible weather forecast, the sun shone and warmed the chilled air on Easter Sunday as the popular Skegness Silver Band opened the summer season on the band stand in Tower Gardens. The Band has been entertaining the public in Skegness and the surrounding area for over 100 years and continued to do this on Sunday with a lively programme of music directed by their talented musical director Steve Walker.

The band members were very sad to have to say goodbye to two friends who are leaving the band.  Tony Wilkins is moving away from Skegness whilst Sally Green is busy studying for a Postgraduate Degree and will only be able to visit the band occasionally.  The band wishes them well and will miss them.

As the Band is such an important asset to this seaside community, when people leave new players are needed to keep the tradition going.  Currently the band have vacancies for cornet players, 2nd trombone and percussionists.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for any brass musicians who have recently moved into the area,” said Band Chairman Norman Prime. “It is such fun to play in a brass band, to meet a new set of friends and to become an active part of the community’.
